AECOM has appointed Jenny Beilby as Head of Building Surveying for the UK and Ireland, strengthening its facilities management and asset-management capabilities as organisations face ageing buildings, economic pressures and growing demands for sustainable performance. The appointment was reported by Construction Digital.

Beilby will lead and grow AECOM’s building surveying team across the region, helping public and private-sector clients maximise the value of existing assets and manage capital expenditure. Her appointment brings a strong multidisciplinary background to a role increasingly connected to the operational performance of buildings. AECOM said she has more than 25 years’ experience delivering complex public-sector capital programmes across sectors including justice, health, education, energy and leisure.

Before joining AECOM, Beilby was a director at AtkinsRéalis, where she led a multidisciplinary team incorporating project managers, cost consultants, building surveyors and health and safety advisers. The team worked across the full RIBA project lifecycle, providing experience spanning strategic definition and design through construction, handover and use.

That breadth is particularly relevant to facilities management, where decisions made during a building’s design and construction can influence maintenance requirements, operating costs, safety and asset performance for years after handover. AECOM’s Buildings & Places business brings together architecture, engineering, planning, masterplanning and programme management, providing a multidisciplinary platform for clients managing complex property portfolios.

The appointment also reflects a growing focus on the existing building stock rather than solely on new construction. For FM teams and asset owners, effective building surveying can support condition assessment, maintenance planning, capital investment decisions and longer-term lifecycle strategies, helping organisations understand where expenditure can deliver the greatest operational value.

AECOM Managing Director, Buildings & Places, Jo Streeten said clients are dealing with increasingly ageing assets alongside challenges including extreme heat and the transition to Net Zero, requiring an integrated approach. Beilby said her focus would include ensuring clients’ assets remain safe, sustainable and cost-effective throughout their lifecycles. AECOM’s announcement also identifies clients across aviation, energy, defence, commercial real estate, education and central government.

For the sector, the appointment highlights the expanding role of multidisciplinary expertise in facilities management. As organisations seek to extend asset life, control expenditure and improve building performance, surveying, engineering, cost management and health and safety increasingly need to work together throughout the asset lifecycle.
