Canadian engineering services and nuclear company AtkinsRéalis Group has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Patrick J Tobin & Co. Ltd. (TOBIN), a Galway-headquartered Irish engineering and project management consultancy founded in 1952, in a deal that strengthens its capability to deliver infrastructure, built environment and water services across Ireland.

Smart Water Magazine reported that the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with no financial terms disclosed.

TOBIN employs approximately 200 people across five offices in Ireland and delivers end-to-end multidisciplinary engineering, technical and programme management services across four end markets: Building & Places, Water, Transportation, and Environmental and Planning services.

The acquisition will expand AtkinsRéalis's Irish workforce to more than 700 employees, combining TOBIN's 200 staff with the firm's existing 500-plus employees based across offices in Dublin, Cork, Dundalk and Galway.

AtkinsRéalis's existing Irish portfolio includes multidisciplinary design for Iarnród Éireann's DART+ West and DART+ South West projects, engineering and project management services for EirGrid's electricity transmission investment programme, work on the Water Supply Project for Uisce Éireann, design and project management for the 19-kilometre Dublin Metrolink Advanced Works, and ongoing support for upgrades at Dublin Airport.

TOBIN's own track record includes the Water Supply Project for the Eastern and Midlands Region for Uisce Éireann, onshore environmental work for the Codling Wind Park transmission infrastructure, and the M28 motorway project to improve access to the Port of Cork.
