GRAHAM Asset Management has completed a £365,000 refurbishment at Belfast Metropolitan College’s Millfield Campus, delivering a 3,800 sq ft purpose-built facility for English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).

The modern, bright, and inclusive space is designed to enhance teaching and learning, reflecting the growing importance of accessible education.

The project was a collaborative effort between Belfast Met, GRAHAM Investment Projects, and Northwin Belfast Ltd, illustrating the value of partnership in delivering tailored educational infrastructure.

The new unit responds to a surge in demand, with ESOL enrolments at Belfast Met rising 58% since 2020/21. Currently, 861 learners from 56 countries are participating in ESOL programmes, highlighting both the scale and diversity of need.

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald officially opened the facility, alongside Belfast Met interim principal Damian Duffy and student representatives Aldanany Alabsi and Jessica Guzman. The opening underscored the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality, functional spaces that support learners and staff alike.

"We are delighted to be opening this new facility which demonstrates our commitment to providing stimulating and highly functioning spaces that meet the needs of our learners, staff and wider stakeholders. The Project Team have to be commended for the delivery of this project which has greatly improved and enhanced the experience of our ESOL learners,” Peter Kane, Estates Manager at Belfast Met, emphasised the impact of the project:.

Hugh Dempsey, Managing Director at GRAHAM Asset Management, added: “We’re delighted to have played a role in delivering this important facility for Belfast Met. It’s a great example of how collaborative working can create spaces that truly support learning, inclusion and opportunity.”
