Henry Brothers has completed a £12.4 million refurbishment and expansion of the Endoscopy Unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust's Queen's Medical Centre, delivering upgraded healthcare facilities designed to improve patient experience, increase clinical capacity and support more efficient service delivery.

The Belfast News Letter reports that the Northern Ireland-headquartered construction company delivered the project following investment from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS England, creating a significantly larger and more modern endoscopy facility capable of treating more patients each year.

The redevelopment introduces a third procedure room, increasing capacity while helping reduce waiting times, particularly for urgent inpatient procedures. The upgraded unit also includes new admissions and preparation areas, recovery bays, discharge facilities and enhanced staff accommodation designed to improve operational workflows throughout the department.

Henry Brothers delivered the project through the Pagabo Major Construction Works Framework alongside a multidisciplinary design team comprising CPMG Architects, Keith Simpson Associates, EP Consulting and Meller. Construction was completed while endoscopy services remained operational throughout the redevelopment programme.

Ian Taylor, Managing Director of Henry Brothers Construction, said the project would become an important regional healthcare asset, providing modern clinical facilities while supporting improved patient outcomes. He added that delivering enhanced healthcare infrastructure for the local community reflected the company's commitment to creating lasting value through its construction projects.

The refurbished department has been designed to enhance patient privacy, dignity and safety while also providing improved space for specialist training, innovation and the delivery of more complex endoscopy procedures. The hospital also intends to pursue Joint Advisory Group accreditation, recognising compliance with national standards for patient safety, infection control and clinical quality.

Healthcare leaders said the expanded unit will strengthen specialist endoscopy services across the East Midlands by improving access to diagnostic procedures, supporting regional referrals and creating additional capacity to meet growing demand.

The project reflects the continuing investment in modern healthcare facilities, where construction, refurbishment and facilities management play an increasingly important role in improving operational efficiency, supporting clinical services and enhancing the patient experience.
