A new Dublin-based property insurance specialist is giving owners and facilities teams another route to cover complex commercial buildings, as Kyntra targets risks that can fall outside the appetite of mainstream insurers.

Kyntra, backed by Mission, has launched as a managing general agent focused on property-owner and operational risks across manufacturing, warehousing, accommodation, leisure, office blocks and unoccupied properties. Insurance Business reported the launch on 7 October, with David Gibson and Robert Purser joining as co-founders and co-chief executives.

For Facilities Management professionals, the development is relevant because insurance and building management are closely connected. The condition of a property, maintenance standards, fire protection, security, occupancy arrangements and the management of building systems can all influence how insurers assess commercial property risk. Specialist underwriting can therefore give organisations greater flexibility when managing assets with unusual construction, occupancy or operational characteristics.

Kyntra will consider both standard and non-standard construction and can provide primary, first-loss, excess-of-loss and co-insurance cover. Its approach is based on assessing submissions individually rather than relying solely on rigid rules. That could be particularly relevant for FM teams managing older buildings, specialist facilities or properties undergoing changes in use where a standard insurance solution may not always reflect the asset's circumstances.

The business is Mission’s 12th MGA across the UK and Europe and its first based in Dublin. Mission provides underwriting businesses with technology, operational support and infrastructure, while its European platform operates under Central Bank of Ireland regulation. Mission says its model is designed to give specialist MGAs the support needed to develop focused underwriting businesses while maintaining local market expertise and regulatory compliance.

The launch also comes as commercial property owners face increasingly varied operational requirements across their estates. Manufacturing facilities, warehouses, hotels and vacant properties can each present different combinations of building condition, occupancy, security, maintenance and business-continuity considerations. For FM teams, maintaining accurate asset information and strong preventative controls can therefore support both day-to-day performance and wider risk management.

For the sector, Kyntra’s arrival shows how specialist insurance provision can complement professional facilities management. As Irish commercial property becomes more diverse, closer alignment between building conditions, operational controls and insurance requirements can help owners make better-informed decisions about protecting assets and maintaining their long-term value.
