Maxol, Northern Ireland’s leading family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer, has completed a £1.5 million (€1.72 million) redevelopment at its Ballyholme site in Bangor, operated under license by the Henderson Group. The redevelopment introduces a new Post Office facility, expands retail space to 1,506 sq. ft, and doubles customer parking to twelve spaces.

The upgraded store follows the latest SPAR design principles, offering customers enhanced convenience with fresh local produce, dairy and frozen foods, and a BARISTA BAR serving coffee and hot drinks. The forecourt has been reconfigured with two pump islands and improved air, water, and vacuum services, designed to enhance operational efficiency and customer throughput.

Sustainability is central to the redevelopment, with Maxol implementing its eco-friendly forecourt model to reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint by 40%. Measures include LED lighting throughout, low-energy CO2 refrigeration with glazed doors, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.

Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group, commented: “We are delighted to see the work to expand and modernise Maxol Ballyholme now complete. It is the latest redevelopment in our local network where we have delivered a new and sustainably designed store and created modern spacious facilities for our customers to enjoy convenience shopping for everyday grocery essentials right on their doorstep.”

“Maxol SPAR Ballyholme has always been a busy forecourt, serving the surrounding residential and retail neighbourhood, now even more so thanks to the completion of this renovation," Billy Moore, Group Finance Director at Henderson Group, added.
