Robertson Facilities Management (RFM) has secured a two-year contract to provide comprehensive grounds maintenance and winter gritting services for ScotRail, Scotland’s national passenger rail operator. This marks RFM’s first engagement with ScotRail, covering over 360 locations including stations, depots, signalling centres, office buildings, operational yards, and passenger-facing areas.
The contract encompasses winter gritting, vegetation control, litter collection, and broader grounds maintenance, ensuring safe and well-managed environments throughout the year. William Heaney, Managing Director for Scotland at RFM, said: “Scotland’s rail network plays a vital role in daily life and we understand the level of care required to keep such a large and varied estate safe, compliant and well managed. Our teams bring extensive experience in maintaining complex operational environments and will apply that knowledge to support consistent, high quality and value driven services across the network.”
RFM’s operational scope aims to maintain both the safety and aesthetic standards of ScotRail’s estate, contributing to smoother passenger flow and improved staff working conditions. The firm will implement planned and reactive maintenance schedules, combining technical expertise with local knowledge to respond to seasonal challenges such as snow, ice, and vegetation growth.
The contract reinforces RFM’s growing presence in the UK facilities management sector and highlights its capability in supporting large-scale, multi-site operations. Heaney added: “We look forward to building a collaborative partnership with ScotRail that helps create welcoming and dependable spaces for staff and passengers throughout the year.”
By integrating operational excellence with safety and sustainability standards, RFM is positioned to deliver value-driven services that enhance ScotRail’s network performance and passenger experience. The engagement demonstrates the importance of specialised facilities management in complex, high-traffic environments.
