The Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), a United States management and development services provider for sports, recreation and events venues, has been selected to manage the new $140 million (€129 million) Odessa Sports Complex, a multi-sport destination in West Texas, as reported by Odessa American.
Planned with extensive fields and courts under one operating umbrella, the Odessa Sports Complex is designed to be the largest youth sports complex in Texas. The venue blueprint currently includes 10 basketball courts convertible to 20 volleyball courts, 10 synthetic-turf multipurpose fields and 12 baseball or softball fields, supported by modern guest amenities and event operations spaces.
Aaron Smith, city manager of Odessa, said the Odessa Sports Complex is a once-in-a-generation investment in children and quality of life. He added that the city is creating a place where local families can practice and compete close to home, whilst welcoming tournaments that bring new visitors, new spending and new attention to West Texas.
SFC's management approach in Odessa will focus on delivering a calibrated mix of community programming and destination events. This includes weeknight leagues, camps, clinics and open-play opportunities for Odessa residents and regional athletes, complemented by weekend tournaments driving visitor spending at hotels, restaurants and local businesses.
JD Wood, regional vice president of strategic development at SFC, said the heart of the complex is the everyday experience for Odessa families. He added that on a Tuesday night, it becomes a safe, lively place for practice and league play, whilst on weekends it transforms into a tournament village bringing teams, spectators and revenue into the local economy.
