Irish padel operator Padel Rock Ltd has filed a revised planning application with Tipperary County Council for an indoor padel tennis facility at Cashel Business Park on Cahir Road, renewing its push to establish a dedicated sports and leisure venue in Tipperary and reflecting the growing appetite for padel facility investment across Ireland.
The Irish Independent reported that Tipperary County Council is scheduled to make a decision on the revised proposal by 15 June 2026.
The revised application retains the core proposal with targeted adjustments made to address the specific planning considerations raised during the earlier determination process, demonstrating Padel Rock's continued commitment to bringing the facility to fruition.
The original application was refused after Tipperary County Council found that the proposed development constituted a change of use not permitted under the zoning objectives of the Cashel and Environs Development Plan, which limits the Cashel Business Park site to commercial and industrial purposes.
The council reiterated its support for sports facilities developed at appropriate locations convenient to residential areas, and Padel Rock's revised submission aims to address those considerations directly.
Padel is a fast-growing racket sport played in doubles on a compact enclosed court, with scoring mirroring tennis and gameplay incorporating squash-like elements. Ireland has seen significant growth in padel facility applications in recent years, with Hammerson lodging plans for 10 padel courts at Swords Pavilions shopping centre in Dublin in January 2026.
For FM professionals and leisure estate operators, the Tipperary case illustrates the importance of early-stage land use assessment and proactive engagement with local development plans when bringing new sports and recreational facilities to market.
