Swedish ferry operator Stena Line has announced a £14 million (€16.4m) investment programme covering the refit and modernisation of its 11-vessel Irish Sea fleet, in a development that illustrates the scale of planned maintenance and facilities upgrade programmes required to sustain large, multi-vessel transport asset portfolios across complex operating environments.
Business Eye reported that the investment spans Stena Line's Irish Sea network connecting Belfast to Cairnryan, Birkenhead and Heysham, Dublin to Birkenhead and Holyhead, and Rosslare to Fishguard.
The programme covers extensive cabin improvements, an increased number of pet-friendly cabins, enhanced Stena Plus premium lounges, and upgraded family entertainment areas across the fleet, with each enhancement reflecting passenger feedback gathered through the company's ongoing customer engagement programme.
Mark Scouler, fleet manager Irish Sea at Stena Line, said: "This investment demonstrates our dedication to delivering the highest standards of safety, efficiency, comfort and reliability for our customers. By upgrading and modernising our vessels, we ensure that Stena Line remains the leader for the Irish Sea freight and travel market. We continually seek to invest in our vessels and provide a premium sustainable service for all our customers."
Orla Noonan, commercial travel manager at Stena Line, said the investment reflects the company's commitment to continuously improving the onboard experience, adding that by acting on feedback the firm has delivered a range of enhancements from upgraded family entertainment and contemporary lounge spaces to expanded pet facilities.
Stena Line operates one of Europe's most extensive ferry networks and its Irish Sea routes serve as a critical infrastructure link for both freight and passenger movements between Ireland and Great Britain.
