Mitie has secured a £4 million contract renewal with the Government Property Agency (GPA), extending its role in delivering facilities management services across three government office sites in England.

The three-year agreement covers Quay House in Peterborough, which serves as the GPA's regional hub, alongside the Grade II-listed buildings at 3-8 Whitehall and 55 Whitehall in Westminster. According to the contract announcement, Mitie will continue to provide maintenance and engineering services designed to support the operation of the occupied government buildings.

As part of the agreement, the facilities management provider will deliver predictive mechanical and electrical maintenance services, including monitoring key building systems such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Predictive maintenance approaches are increasingly being adopted across the FM sector to identify potential issues before they disrupt operations, helping organisations improve asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime.

The contract also includes a range of statutory and compliance-related services. These cover water hygiene management, electrical testing, and the inspection and testing of fire and security systems. Such services play a critical role in supporting building safety, regulatory compliance and operational continuity across complex estates.

The buildings supported under the contract are occupied by several government departments and organisations, including the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Great British Nuclear and His Majesty's Passport Office.

Alongside service delivery, the agreement includes workforce development and social value commitments. Existing employees will transfer to Mitie under TUPE arrangements, while additional engineering positions are expected to be created. The company also plans to provide work placement opportunities for young people seeking careers in facilities management and support professional development through apprenticeship programmes.

The renewal highlights the continued demand for integrated maintenance and compliance services within public-sector estates, where facilities management providers are increasingly expected to combine operational expertise with workforce development and long-term asset management strategies.
